Time for a Fresh Start....

The New Year is upon us... we get to start over.....something about this time of year makes me want to clean out the closets.... organize the cabinets....peel back the layers and simplify.... donate, sell, and try something new. New bedding... new drapes... new silverware.... these are the things I'm dreaming of.....O.K. maybe not... I did say simplify didn't I?
Wishing you all the a wonderful fresh New Year... start over... reinvent... make it better!

Rolling Pebble....

Because we are not busy enough with Christmas right around the corner and family and friends coming for a visit.... H.H. and I decided it was time to paint the kitchen....yup... needed to get that done right now. I have been pondering this for a while, this is not a sudden or rash decision. I have been oogling all the grays out there in blog land and  decided to do some version there of. I picked a Behr paint in a matte finish with a primer and paint in one. The color is Rolling Pebble and I am very happy with my choice! yay! no painters remorse! It was a long day to say the least but loving the way it changed the feeling in the room. It's really kind of a Greige color and I feel it updated the space. It goes wonderfully with the granite and well, somehow even makes the Maple cabinets which disgust me which are not my favorite, seem more bearable. So for about 30 bucks,an aching back and a days labor.... taadaa... new and improved kitchen!

It's White and its not even Wednesday....

Last weekend something happened that almost never happens here in North Carolina...well in my neck of the woods anyway..
It snowed...not much... maybe an inch.... it seemed like the perfect opportunity to take a walk in the woods and cut down the Charlie Brown tree.We did this last year and I fell in love with our little scrawny tree.
It's hard to recreate something that perfect... but I think we did..at least to me anyway.  We headed out into the cold...with our boots and wraps we were bundled....there were so many to choose from... who would get the glory?
H.H. spotted him.....yes he is the one I said,he wielded the saw and we brought him home. We were definitely feeling the Christmas spirit, Maggie.... not so much!
We decorated our little CB tree, and  one for mimi's little girlies too...

There is still much to do....but I'm enjoying it ... hope you are too!

Peter Piper picked a peck of pillows.....

How many pillows are in a peck anyway? I seriously love pillows, and I'm not a pillow snob. I pick up pillows anywhere from Pier One to T.J. Maxx. I have pottery Barn and Ballard design pillows, pillows I've made myself. You can completely change a look of a room just by changing up your pillows. Of course, silly me, you all already know that because most of you have the same afflictions as me. I drag pillows from one room to the other and introduce them to each, if they play nice together, they can stay a while... but I tell them to not get too attached as they will surely be moving again soon.  I have a whole pile of pillows on the daybed in my office, so when the  mood strikes I can flop on them to rest.

In the guest bedroom which has all white bedding, of course the pillows are white, I love me some white quilted pillows. I also have the lone burlap pillow I have managed to make, one of these days I'll get around to making the other 2 or 10 I have burlap for.
I know its hard to believe but I only have one decorative pillow in my bedroom, it sits in front of the other 5!
I love it's perfect French Blueness and its perfect paisleys. She is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Then there is the green collection. I found the one on the burlap chair @ Home Goods I believe and I made the other 2 years ago, they come and go from the retirement home closet. I love the fabric on them. The green velvet pillows with the G monogram are from Ballard design, and this week we added a new friend to the family.... the white Duck FARGO pillow. I ordered him from a little shop called Funky Junque, located in my hometowns of Fargo ND and Moorhead MN.
I never or rarely ever toss out a pillow.... I like to save them because you never know when one will need to come out of hiding and start the rounds again. Sometimes there remade with new fabric, sometimes they just come as they are and I love them all over again!

Hope you have a lovely weekend..... I'm off to polish the silverware... you know Thanksgiving is coming!
