I just returned from a decorating whirlwind visit with daughter #1. She has just moved into a spanking clean brand new home and was virtually starting from ground zero. She had purchase a wonderful 3 piece matching sofa, love seat and chaise lounge from Craig's list for $300.00 and a pedestal table and four matching chairs for $70.00,somebody had removed the finish from the top of the table but abandoned the project. She had her bed and linens and a big cherub lamp in the living room and that was it. We shopped Goodwill, Salvation Army, Home Goods and Walmart and rooms came together layer by layer... I decoupaged the top of the dining room table and created chalk boards out of some old pictures she had and painted a patina over the silver frames. We spray painted a $5.00 lamp from goodwill and added a new shade... mix and matched pillows, bedding, rag rugs....Spray painted odds and ends black to make a wonderful grouping for over the sofa and added two little black tuffets for her girls to sit on to watch their movies. Turqoise sheets from Walmart grace her bedroom windows simply tacked in place... ditto for the girls room, a $2.00 curtain from goodwill was tacked up in the loft/play room and the chaise was put there for her to watch the girls play. It was truly a labor of LOVE and the final product is a home that is comfy, cozy, a shabby-bohemian retreat and truly a reflection of my daughters incredible artistic, creative talents. She has created a home to treasure and to be comfortable in,relaxed and loved in....it was so much fun for me to be a part of the process.
