starting to feel like Fall....

H.H. got up bright and early this morning to go out and work on the yard.He turned on the sprinkler system for a couple of hours... then it was time to aerate and seed...sure sign that it is September and almost Fall around here. Reluctant to give up on summer I have conceded to bringing in some Fall touches here and there....
I packed away the shells for now.... pulled out the dried artichokes and pods....
also this year I am crazy about jute twine, string, rope and burlap ribbon..... H.H. just thinks I'm crazy...
who puts string in bowls and platters...
it adds a rustic quality which I am really digging.
they are small changes.... but that will help to ease me into the season.

hope you are having a great "almost Fall" weekend!

P.S.  Yesterday while  I was forced to go out and shop I found the twin to my lamp with the script shade that I posted about earlier. Twins seperated @ birth have been reunited! Best part, got her on clearance!! They decided to share a room so I moved them both into the dining room on the buffet.

a Martha moment...

Several years ago my daughter gave me a Martha Stewart book on wreath making. We had this idea that we would gather all sorts of stuff  from my garden to make wreaths and sell them. Yeah, that's probably never going to happen. Anyway.... while I was out this morning picking up pine cones and trimming back  the crap that grows on everything   the kudzu, I had this brilliant idea to make a wreath from my trimmings.
I brought the clippings to my potting shed and  started brain storming. O.K. it did not take much brain storming, I just started to weave it around in a circle.
It was easy.... but I sneezed.... a lot. Then before you know it I had this...

and because I can never leave well enough alone... I decided to add some of my beloved hydrangea's...
ta daaaa! My Martha moment.....I'm very interested to see what will happen when things start to dry. If its not too ugly, maybe I'll share.
Have a wonderful Holdiay weekend.

No. 5

I have been having a little love affair lately..... with the number 5.
He seems to be popping up everywhere.  A couple years ago I found a sweet little chair at a flea market in Memphis, and it hitched a ride home with me. It spent the first year with its original oak stain. Then it was reincarnated as a flashy little turquoise number as seen in one of my earlier postings.
Now it has a number..... yes, you've guessed it... the No. 5.
I toted  him out to the deck and gave him a crisp brushing of white....
drew the No. 5 on with pencil....
banged him up a bit, and painted his name on him....

meet my new boyfriend.....No. 5
I think he is fabulous!
but who knows...... there might be a studly No. 6 just around the corner.

New digs.....

I have been busy the last few days helping my Mom move into her new apartment.....
the packing part is not so fun.... nor is the moving part..... but I have always loved the unpacking part.

finding a new home for all your treasures is fun.....
and my Mom has collected some fabulous treasures over the years.

wonderful books....
and boxes.....

paintings from local artists......

old leather luggage....

pottery.....
just to name a few.... My Mom has always loved neutrals, white and cream and tan
all mixed and layered.  We hung a grouping over her sofa which I just adore...
pieces parts, from here and there.... they each have their own story...

she has a great little place to dine....( did I mention she can see the t.v. from there?)

a comfy place to sleep.....

even her loo has yummy details....

I love your new home Mom....
it says a lot about you....
You have the soul of an artist and it shows by the things you surround yourself with.
You have a great place to curl up with all those books you collect, watch all those movies you love....
and listen to all that soothing music you prefer.

maybe when I come over to hang your new drapes I can help you drink some of that wine!

Sippin on a Saturday.......

H.H. and I decided to take adavantage of the cool down in the weather this weekend by spending the afternoon in the garden. We got our " to do" list done early and set up shop on the back patio.
I brought a tray down with margaritas and munchies....

Even though we have had an incredibly hot summer.....some of my plants are still hanging in there.

we saw birdies......

and butterflys.....
and blue skys.....

Maggie came out to the garden to soak up some sun too.

It was a really pleasant way to spend a Saturday......

Hope YOU are having a pleasant weekend too!
